Wrapped in Love Ministry
Members of the Wrapped in Love Ministry make weighted items, such as blankets, vests, beanbags, and lap pads to provide to children with sensory processing disorders/issues.
All items are made with love and provided free to the recipient.
Why Weighted Items?
Most of the children receiving our items are on the Autism Spectrum, but children with other diagnoses or symptoms might also benefit. Some children may be hypersensitive to sensory stimuli, meaning they experience stimuli more acutely; while other may be hyposensitive, meaning they perceive sensory input less intensely. But research has shown that self-soothing tools, like weighted items, may help children with sensory processing disorder or issues feel calmer and more relaxed. Using a weighted item is like getting a big hug… without the sensory overload.
How to Request a Weighted Item
Parents, guardians or therapists can make a request by using the Request Form link on this webpage. Items MUST be PICKED UP at one of two locations where they are made: 1) SFUMC in Charlotte, NC or 2) Simpsonville, SC.
The Request Form is used to collect information about the child; including weight, size, color or design preferences; so the item can be made to fit and benefit the child as well as engage his or her interest.
